Minister of Tourism Thong Khon, yesterday visited Koh Prum Majarei Chrouy Banteay Ecotourism island and encouraged the local community to engage in tourism-related activities.
Khon said the communities should take part in providing ecotourism services and contributing to sustainable management of natural resources.
Koh Prum Majarei Chrouy Banteay Ecotourism island is located along the Mekong River and within Prek Prasob Wildlife Sanctuary.
Ecotourism development was established late last year through cooperation between the Kratie provincial Department of Tourism and WWF-Cambodia with funding from the Government of Belgium (DGD).
This new community-based ecotourism venture will help improve the livelihoods of at least 40 households while engaging them in efforts to protect natural resources including the globally endangered hog deer and Irrawaddy dolphin.
