Daniel Craig, the sixth actor who plays secret agent James Bond in Bond film series from 2006 will launch Cambodia’s first safe ground virtually on Friday, according to a news release from UNDP-Cambodia office.

“Daniel Craig is coming to UNDP Cambodia to launch Cambodia’s first SafeGround on January 22”, it added.

The launching ceremony will be held virtually, but live and will be streamed on UNDP-Cambodia’s Facebook page.

Daniel Craig is the UN Global Advocate for the Elimination of Mines and Explosive Hazards, and he will be speaking on this event about why he cares so deeply about this issue, and how all stakeholders can work with him to end this scourge that still claims thousands of civilian lives, each year.

As of 2020, Cambodia has cleared a total of 2,138 square kilometres of landmine-strewn areas and destroyed 1,095,750 anti-personnel mines, 25,488 anti-tank mines, 2,885,294 UXOs and cluster bombs.

According to the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authorities, landmines and UXOs last year killed 17 people, injured 36 and amputated 12 others.
