Cambodia’s migrant workers COVID-19 cluster shows alarming increase to 56, tally now 426

Cambodia’s returning migrant workers COVID-19 cluster has risen alarming in the past two days with the latest cluster numbers increasing to 56.

Of these, 23 were in the past two days. Eight cases were reported by the Ministry of Health Thursday and today, they announced a further 15 infections, putting pressure on provincial health facilities.

There are also mounting fears that the Government, on the recommendation of the Ministry of Health, may impose further restrictions and controls which will again hamper people’s livelihood and the so called new normal even further.

The breakdown of the 15 cases reported this morning are:
1. A 29-year-old male from Thmor Kol District, Battambang Province

2: A 34-year-old male from Boeung Reang Commune, Kamrieng District, Battambang Province,

3. A 28-year-old male from Samrong commune, Samrong district, Takeo province,

4: A 35-year-old female from Ta Sen Commune, Kamrieng District, Battambang Province,

5: A 37-year-old female from Boeung Reang Commune, Kamrieng District, Battambang Province,

6. A 28-year-old female from Sangkat Prey Pring Khang Tbong, Khan Por Senchey, Phnom Penh,

7. A 23-year-old female from Samrong commune, Ek Phnom district, Battambang province,

8. A 38-year-old female from Sangkat Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Chhnang City, Kampong Chhnang Province,

9. A 31-year-old female from Stung Karch Commune, Sala Krao District, Pailin Province,

All of these patients are currently being treated at the Battambang Provincial Referral Hospital and had returned to Cambodia from Thailand on 13 January, 2021.

10: A 34-year-old female from Kea commune, Maung Russey district, Battambang province, who returned to Cambodia on 11 January, 2021.

11: A 27-year-old male from Sangkat Poipet, Poipet City, Banteay Meanchey Province, who returned to Cambodia on 12 January, 2021.

12: A 25-year-old woman from Sangkat Poipet, Poipet City, Banteay Meanchey Province who returned to Cambodia on 12 January, 2021.

13. A 29-year-old male from Boeung Reang commune, Kamrieng district, Battambang province, who arrived in Cambodia on 11 January, 2021.

14: A 23-year-old female from Tapoung commune, Thmor Koul commune, Battambang province, who returned to Cambodia on 12 January, 2021.

They are currently being treated at Banteay Meanchey Provincial Referral Hospital.

15: A 35-year-old male from Takeo Province who returned to Cambodia on 13 January, 2021. He is currently being treated at Oddar Meanchey Provincial Referral Hospital.

One of the 15 cases is from Phnom Penh, Pailin 1, Kompong Chnnang 1, Banteay Meanchey 1, Takeo 2 cases, Battambang 9 cases.

The tally thus rose to 426, including 301 Cambodians, 45 French, 18 Chinese, 13 Malaysians, 12 Americans, 12 Indonesians, 6 British, 3 Vietnamese, 3 Canadians, 3 Indians, 2 Hungarians, 2 Pakistanis, 2 Japanese, 1 Belgian, 1 Kazakhstani, 1 Polish, and 1 Jordanian.

At the same time, four patients have recovered, bringing the total number of cured cases to 381, with zero death recorded.

The new recovered patients are all Cambodian migrant workers returning from Thailand. They have been allowed to be discharged from Pailin Provincial Referral Hospital after being tested negative twice consecutively.
