Cambodia is a safe tourist destination with the Kingdom ranked by the World Health Organization (WHO) as among the top nations in the world with the best COVID-19 containment and impact management.

The Bureau de Prospective Economique (BPE) of Senegal has also placed  Cambodia in the 3rd place among the 166 studied nations across the world, and the 1st place in Asia in terms of the Kingdom’s effective measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 and to handle pandemic’s fallouts.

Cambodia was also praised by WHO for avoiding a large-scale outbreak.

Government spokesman Phay Siphan said the accolades by the WHO and BPE clearly shows that Cambodia has put in place the right stringent preventive and control measures on COVID-10 under the capable leadership of Prime Minister Hun Sen.

He added the support and cooperation given by the Cambodians is another attributing factor for the nation’s success in combating the pandemic effectively.

Siphan said Mr Hun Sen has even taken proactive measures including releasing funds and mobilising armed forces at the Cambodia-Thailand borders to quarantine migrant workers returning from Thailand at the border centers and immediately hospitalising those tested positive for the disease.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Tourism spokesman Top Sopheak  said that he is proud of the Kingdom being ranked one of the top countries in the world for effectively combating COVID-19 pandemic, a sign that the nation is a safe destination for foreign tourists to visit.

Sopheak said foreigners who are planning to travel during this pandemic period or even after post-pandemic should consider making Cambodia their travel destination.

“The ministry has already prepared a roadmap and plans to rehabilitate and promote Cambodia’s tourism sector in and after the COVID-19 crisis,” he added.

The ministry in a press release issued on December 20 last year had stated that Cambodia is one of the safest countries to visit amid COVID-19 pandemic.

It said: “This ranking is another national pride of Cambodia and this is a great opportunity on promoting “Cambodia – Kingdom of Wonder, Feel the Warmth” at both local and international stages in all circumstances.”

It also requested the support and cooperation from all relevant entities, institutions, tour operators, development partners, the public, and media to disseminate this good news to all partners around the world with the objective to promote Cambodia as the safest tourist destination amid COVID-19 pandemic.
