Temperatures in Cambodia could drop to as low as 11 degrees Celsius today and tomorrow, with lows of 16 degrees Celsius continuing into next week.
High pressure winds from the north along with the northeast monsoon are causing the temperature drop.
The Ministry of Meteorology yesterday called on people to prepare and pay attention to the needs of the elderly and children as well as soldiers and police forces living in the Dangrek Mountains and the Northeast Plateau where temperatures can drop dangerously low.
Director of Preah Vihear Provincial Health Department Koung Lo said that the department has educated people on how to protect and take care of their health when the weather changes, adding that if they have any health problems, they should hurry to a nearby health centre or hospital.
“When the weather is cold, we advise them not to stay outside for long periods of time, especially at night, to wear winter coats and to keep warm by the fire,” he said.
The ministry added that the provinces in the Dangrek mountain range and Northeastern Plateau from today to tomorrow will experience a minimum temperature of 11 and a maximum of 26 degrees Celsius. Between January 15 and 19, there will be a minimum temperature of 16 and a maximum of 30 degrees Celsius.
Coastal provinces today and tomorrow will experience a minimum temperature of 22 and a maximum of 31 degrees Celsius. Between January 15 and 19 the minimum temperature will be 19 and the maximum will be 30 degrees Celsius.
Provinces in the central lowlands today and tomorrow will experience a minimum temperature of 13 and a maximum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius. Between January 15 and 19, the minimum temperature will be 18 and the maximum will be 30 degrees Celsius.
