Small World Small Band (SWSB), who are well-known as a popular music band among local youth, has been invited to perform at ROUND FESTIVAL organised by South Korea’s KBS TV broadcasting online on the first Sunday of December.

Being the first Cambodian band to join the international music event, SWSB said they are now creating a special performance to present Cambodia’s modernity of music to the world’s audiences.

Mam Pich Rith, one of four members of SWSB, said the band has chosen a few special songs to be re-created with traditional Khmer instruments, making them become a contemporary art form to highlight the special identity of Khmer ancient arts to international audiences.

“As we all know, SWSB always do its best to combine traditional Khmer arts with modern art forms to preserve and develop our national identity. In this performance at ROUND FESTIVAL, the audience will see a new contemporary art performance, in which we have combined Khmer traditional instruments and modern musical instruments, making it more special than our previous performances,” said Rith.

ROUND FESTIVAL is aimed to connect Asean countries and South Korea through music. The festival has invited many artists throughout Asean and South Korea to showcase their talents to the world through an online platform.

Rithy Lomor Kesor, a member of SWSB, said it is a great move for the band as well as Cambodia to join international events such as ROUND FESTIVAL.

Kesor said: “We are extremely happy to participate in the newly created festival and become the voice of Cambodia on the international stage with artists from other countries in Asean and South Korea. It is a great honor for SWSB to present the progress of Khmer arts in the 21st century to showcase to the world.”

This is the founding year of ROUND FESTIVAL, hence, this is also the first time for Cambodia to participate and SWSB to perform in the opening of this program, according to SWSB.

Kesor continued: “Participating in the ROUND FESTIVAL is also a great opportunity, not only for SWSB but for all Cambodian artists, to get ready for the next upcoming event such as the next ROUND FESTIVAL and others.”

Small World Small Band consists of 4 members, Rithy Lomor Kesor, Mam Pich Rith, Ream Sok Phirum, and Rong Sophy David. Famous singers from 10 Asean countries and South Korea will perform at ROUND FESTIVAL. The music event will be broadcast on Sunday, December 6 online.
