Cambodia registered its first cluster spread of COVID-19 with two new cases discovered yesterday. They are siblings aged 23 and 21. One is an employees of a private commercial bank in the capital.
The first infection in the same bank and branch was through the wife of a Prisons Department official earlier in the week.
The 23 year old female’s husband is an official at the Ministry of Interior.
These cases are linked to the first community outbreak in the capital which stands at 17 thus far with thousands more results being awaited.
Sources told Khmer Times that the bank branch’s staff are all being tested and following this, there is a possibility customers may be tested.
The Health Ministry has now ordered the Cathay United Bank Headquarters at Samdech Pan street to close for 14 days and for all employees to undergo tests for the virus, followed by a mandatory 14 days quarantine.
Combining the cluster and community spread, Cambodia has registered up to 19 COVID-19 cases, 17 of whom are all related the first infected victim, a 56 year old woman. The 17 are family members and employees of the family belonging to the general director of the prisons department.
With these two new cases, Cambodia’s COVID-19 tally has increased to 331 with 304 recoveries.
