IELTS Cambodia Official Test Center at IDP Education and Singapore (Cambodia) International Academy (SCIA) came together and signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at SCIA campus in Phnom Penh on Friday.

The MoU allows SCIA to become an IELTS Alliance Program test venue under the authority of the IELTS Cambodia official test centre.

Country Director at IELTS Cambodia, Sreng Mao said: “We are pleased to be welcoming Singapore (Cambodia) International Academy as an IELTS test venue through the global IELTS Alliance program.”

“This MoU reflects the growing awareness of the importance of English language capacity for study and career advancement at leading education institutions in Cambodia. We look forward to working together with SCIA to grow the number of students taking IELTS test,” added Mao.

With this MoU, SCIA students can now take the IELTS test on campus. With close links to the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) and other tertiary institutions in Singapore, SCIA places great emphasis on English language proficiency as part of students’ portfolio building process for applications to universities worldwide.

The principal of Enrichment and Professional Learning – SCIA, Ng Bee Sun said: “At SCIA our students aspire to study and work overseas. As such, we want to provide IELTS training and hone their skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking.”

“We ensure they are adequately equipped when they eventually study and/or work in an English-speaking environment abroad. A good score in the IELTS, one of the most widely used English language tests in the world, is a strong indicator,” she said.

ACE Principal, Ashley Irving said that he was honoured to open the MoU signing ceremony between IELTS and SCIA.

Irving said: “Students at SCIA will not only improve their English language skills but also get an objective assessment of their English language abilities. An important point to note is that IELTS is a globally-recognised test of English language proficiency to enter top universities and is also used by governments and professional bodies for immigration and professional registration purposes.”

IELTS Cambodia’s Line Manager Niel Wilford said that he was pleased to sign the MoU with SCIA. They have been discussing this with SCIA even before SCIA opened these doors.

Wilford said: “SCIA has been committed to using IELTS as a benchmark for their students. We are looking forward to them using the test as a benchmark for their students’ performance and their language proficiency. Furthermore to use this as a pathway for further studies in Singapore or around the world.”

“And for the students who are not planning to study overseas, this will help them get into universities locally because we also work with a number of universities here in Cambodia. This will also help the students to get better jobs as we see more and more international and multinational companies coming into Cambodia as the economy develops. English is becoming more and more important as a part of life. Having good IELTS scores, helps candidates to set themselves apart,” Wilford added.

The cooperation between IELTS and SCIA reflects the growing awareness of the importance of benchmarking English language capacity for study and career advancement at leading education institutions in Cambodia.

IELTS is the world’s most popular high-stakes English language test with over three million tests taken in the last year with over 10,000 institutions worldwide – including universities, schools, employers, immigration authorities and professional bodies – recognising IELTS as a benchmark of English language capacity.
