Phnom Penh hotel ordered closed after the visit of COVID-infected official

Health Minister Mam Heng has ordered a temporary closure of Phnom Penh Hotel along Monivong Boulevard in Phnom Penh after a COVID-19 infected official reportedly visited the hotel’s gym and pool.

The Health Ministry said that the closure was made based on the approval by Prime Minister Hun Sen, noting it is closed for two days to allow medical officials to trace those in direct and indirect contact with the patient.

The patient was Lieutenant General Chhem Savuth, Director General of the General Department of Prisons and he tested positive for the virus on Saturday after visiting the hotel’s gym and pool on Monday afternoon.

The ministry also called on those who came in direct and indirect contact with the family of Lt Gen Savuth to have their samples tested for COVID-19 at Aeon Mall 1.

The mall was temporarily closed after his wife went shopping there.

His wife was also diagnosed with the virus.
