Prime Minister Hun Sen today posted a message to celebrate the second anniversary of the inclusion of Lakhoan Khaol (the masked theatre) in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list.
On his official Facebook Page, Mr Hun Sen stated: “November 28, 2020 marks the second anniversary of the inclusion of Khaol theater in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list.”
He said that Lakhoan Khaol, one of Cambodia’s great works of ancient art, was inscribed on the list during a meeting in Port Louis, Mauritius on November 28, 2018.
“The inclusion of Lakhoan Khaol in the abstract list of Humanity, contributes towards Cambodia’s reputation throughout the world and makes Cambodia more prominent at the World Heritage Forum,” he added. “The protection of cultural heritage is the duty of every Cambodian.”
Meanwhile, the Facebook page of the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts today posted a live video about Lakhoan Khaol to celebrate the anniversary.
On November 28 2018, Unesco approved its listing of Lakhoan Khaol Wat Svay Andet as an intangible cultural heritage which is in need of urgent safeguarding at the 13th annual meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Mauritius’s Port Louis.
