Royal Cambodian Armed Forces deputy commander-in-chief Lieutenant General Hun Manet has said that the most important task for the armed forces is to be loyal to the nation, religion and King, by protecting the legitimate government in order to maintain peace for the whole nation.

The comment came Saturday during an event to distribute clothing to help soldiers and their families keep warm during the cold season in Takeo province.

Speaking at the ceremony at the Army Engineering Command centre in Takeo province, Lt Gen Manet, who is also Army Commander, said that because of the previous war that Cambodia has been through, the nation has learned the hard way, through bitter experience and tragedy, that the past should not be repeated.

“Therefore, all the armed forces have an important role in preventing any future wars or destruction to the country,” he said.

He also encouraged the armed forces to continue to demonstrate their commitment by performing their roles to the best of their ability as well as showing trust in the leadership and direction provided by government leaders, who have ensured peace and prosperity.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Sen, the head of the government has prevented the spread of COVID-19 and kept the situation under control for more than ten months, keeping the public safe,” he said.

Lt Gen Manet also reminded all the armed force personnel to exercise caution in the face of the devastating pandemic, by strictly adhering to health measures outlined by the Health Ministry, such as by wearing a mask, maintaining good hygiene, keeping a safe distance, and if showing any suspicious symptoms, reporting immediately to the hospital.

He also expressed his thanks and sincere appreciation to all the armed forces personnel for their sacrifices in protecting the nation and maintaining peace and stability of the country such as by assisting in the disaster relief activities during recent flooding.
