Clean Energy Week 2020 starts today with several events from now until November 19. The purpose is to engage and promote clean energy in Cambodia for sustainable development, economic productivity and innovation.

However, many of the events and workshops will be brought online, postponed or have restricted numbers with careful social distancing and strict health and safety measures because the Ministry of Health announced more restrictions on Nov 8 after a rise in COVID-19 cases.

Students, energy developers, energy experts and property developers are expected to participate, gaining experience on the latest developments in the sector.

The demand for electricity in Cambodia has been increasing year-on-year since 2010 as development in the country continues, with last year’s growth around 15 percent. Today, more people in and out of the major cities rely on having access to electricity. The government is taking steps to meet that need and to reduce reliance on electricity imports from neighbouring countries.

Investments and advances in technology indicate that Cambodia is looking to tap into its sizeable renewable energy potential in the coming years and the Clean Energy week 2020 will lay out the plan on how that can happen.

Clean Energy Week 2019 brought in more than 2,500 people across the capital, filling up a variety of different events and workshops.
