The World Golf Awards has named Vattanac Golf Resort-East Course as the best golf course in Cambodia.
Vattanac Golf Resort-East Course bested four other entries from the Kingdom to win the prestigious recognition. The other nominees from Cambodia in this year’s World Golf Awards are Angkor Golf Resort, Cambodia Golf & Country Club, Garden City Golf Club and Phokeethra Country Club. Last year, the accolade went to Garden City Golf Club.
The World Golf Awards, which is now on its seventh edition, is one of the most sought-after and prestigious accolades in the global golfing industry. The World Golf Awards recognise the world’s best golfing destinations, golf courses, golf hotels, golf tour operators among others.
In addition to the global awardees, there are also winners from every continent, region and country.
Inputs from and online voting among journalists, tour operators, travel agents and other professionals connected to the industry determine the winners.
“Vattanac Golf Resort is pleased to announce that the East Course has been awarded “Cambodia`s Best Golf Course” at the 7th World Golf Awards 2020. We sincerely thank everyone for their support,” the resort posted on its Facebook page.
Located in the outskirts of Phnom Penh, Vattanac Golf Resort-East Course is well-known for hosting an 18-hole golf course designed by British golfing legend Sir Nick Faldo. An expansion called West Course was completed recently.
The resort is also known for having replicas of Angkor Wat and other Khmer architectural wonders.
In July, Vattanac Golf Resort-East Course tapped Troon International, the world’s largest professional club management company, to manage its properties.
Vattanac Golf Resort-East Course opened in May last year. Since then, it hosted many golf tournaments and competitions involving local and foreign players.
Two months ago, Vattanac Golf Resort-East Course hosted the 20th Buaya Club Major Tournament, which brought nearly a hundred participants. The 1st Annual Ministry of Interior vs China Friendship Tournament was also held there in July.
PSD Travel, meanwhile, was named as Cambodia’s best inbound golf tour operator over three other nominees. Cambodia Golf Tours, GolfCambodia.com and LGT Golf were also nominated for the award. PSD Travel won the same award last year.
According to local media reports, golf is making a headway in the Kingdom, with more people playing the sport, including government officials, diplomats and members of local and foreign business communities.
Foreign observers also see Cambodia as an emerging golfing destination. Last year, Cambodia received the undiscovered golf destination of the year award from the International Association of Golf Operators.
