The chances of defending champion Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng football club winning its second title in a row in the Metfone Cambodian League (MCL) increased after the team notched a crucial 2-0 win over Visakha FC yesterday.
PKR Svay Rieng FC and Boeung Ket FC are neck and neck heading into the final weeks of Cambodia’s top football league. Boeung Ket FC is ahead in the standings with 37 points. PKR Svay Rieng FC is two points behind.
The win momentarily gave PKR Svay Rieng FC a one-point lead with less than two weeks remaining before the Cambodian League concludes. Boeung Ket FC is playing against Tiffy Army FC as of press time. A draw or a loss by Boeung Ket FC means that the team from Svay Rieng province will have the bigger chance of nabbing the title this year.
Striker Prak Mony Udom gave PKR Svay Rieng FC a big lift during the game. The 2017 Player of the Year has been slowed down by injuries in the last few months. But in the last few games, he showed flashes of his old self.
A few weeks ago, Prak scored a brace to lead his team to a 5-2 win over Tiffy Army FC.
Prak scored the game and his team’s first goal in the 6th minute. He scored another goal just before halftime. The first half ended with PKR Svay Rieng FC ahead, 2-0.
Both teams failed to score in the second half.
Visakha FC had several good opportunities to score, but failed to convert them.
Cambodian forward Reung Bunheing had a clear lane to the goal in the 75th minute, but his attempt was saved by keeper Aim Sovannarath.
PKR Svay Rieng FC’s last match of the 2020 season will be against NagaWorld FC on October 25. Boeung Ket FC still has one remaining game against Phnom Penh Crown FC that same day.
