One of the most remarkable 5-star luxurious hotels in Siem Reap – Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort is set to reopen its doors on October 19 after temporarily closing when COVID-19 struck the Kingdom.

The reopening is sort of history repeating itself as the hotel officially opened for the first time in October 2000 and it will hold celebrations to mark the 20th anniversary.

The celebration will go on till the end of this year with exceptional events and special offers for everyone.

The hotel’s marketing and communications manager Clément Perocheau said: “Our campaign, themed ‘There is nothing like Siem Reap,’ will run until the end of November. But, we will have other promotions  in December to celebrate the festive season in Siem Reap. We are also organising a weekly lucky draw. To celebrate with us, book our Angkor Escape offer for $99 net per night inclusive of breakfast and try to win an upgrade to our Prestige Suite, a round of golf, one-hour massage or a bottle of wine for the upcoming water festival holiday.”

In April  the hotel had to temporarily close down because of COVID-19. The management has used the closure to continue renovations in many areas.

Perocheau said: “Last year we renovated our W-Meeting room entirely, Mouhot’s Dream restaurant, our French fine dining restaurant and created two new spaces with Club Millésime and The Chef’s table. This year, we are renovating the lobby with new classic and luxury elegance, new ambience as well as 11 additional suites. The Citadel has been fully renovated with a fantastic buffet and our swimming pool has been renovated, too. The ballroom lighting has been upgraded with a high-quality system and different mood options with Saliot Lighting (a famous brand of lighting) and upgraded façade lighting. Overall, we decided to give a brighter and modern atmosphere to the property while preserving what makes our hotel so different such as our beautiful botanical garden.”

Sofitel Hotels are known for their stringent sanitary measures and protocols. They follow the ALL Safe programme from Accor group which consists of doing temperature screening, offering hand sanitisers, respecting social distancing, and disinfecting the most frequently touched areas regularly (both in public areas and in the rooms). Their cleaning and food safety protocols are also reinforced.

General manager Pascal Tadin said: “We had to adapt ourselves during this year which was supposed to be magical for us with the 20th Anniversary celebration. We are getting ready to welcome back our guests in a safe environment and in a partially refurbished hotel.”

Since its opening, the hotel has won countless international and local recognitions and awards. Recently the Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra received the Asia Pacific Hotel of the Year 2020 by IAGTO (International Association of Golf Tour Operators).

“We are determined to make our reopening an enthusiastic moment for our ambassadors who are excited to welcome back our guests. Since we announced the reopening to be on October 19, we received recognitions from the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Award 2020 (#28 in the Top 30 Resort in Asia) and also from Haute Grandeur Global Awards (Best Resort Service Asia, Best Family Resort Cambodia, Best MICE Hotel Cambodia and Best Spa Hotel Cambodia),” Perocheau said.
