After a two week hiatus, the 2020 season of the Metfone Cambodian League (MCL) will resume this weekend with the top six teams battling for the title and the bottom seven teams fighting
for the 7th to 13th spots in the second leg of Cambodia’s top football league.

The top six teams after the first round are Boeung Ket FC (32 points), Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC (31), Visakha (23), Tiffy Army FC (23), Phnom Penh Crown FC (22) and NagaWorld FC (22).

The bottom seven teams, meanwhile, are Angkor Tiger FC (21), Kirivong Sok Sen Chey FC (11), Asia Euro United FC (10), Electricite du Cambodge (nine), National Police FC (seven), Soltilo Angkor FC (seven) and National Football Academy-Bati Youth (two).

The second round of the MCL will kick off on Saturday with three games on the schedule.

Angkor Tiger FC will try to atone for their disappointing finish in the first round when the team faces the National Police FC.

Angkor Tiger FC did well early, only to fall in the later stages of the tournament. The National Police FC, meanwhile, were winless for the most part of the first round, before recovering towards the end of the round.

The Angkor Tiger FC versus National Police FC match will be played at the SRU Stadium in Siem Reap province starting 3:30pm.

Kirivong Sok Sen Chey FC are also playing on Saturday versus Bati Youth. The Bati Youth team, which comprised of Cambodia’s U-18 National Team players, was at the bottom of the standings after the first round.

The Kirivong Sok Sen Chey FC against Bati Youth game will be played at the Kirivong Sok Sen Chey Stadium in Takeo province starting 3:30pm.

The third game for the day will see Tiffy Army FC take on NagaWorld FC. Tiffy Army FC was ranked seventh early on in proceedings, before stringing four straight wins together to clinch the fourth spot at the end of the first leg.

NagaWorld FC however was in danger of doing the opposite. Initially in fourth, unexpected losses late in the first round sank the team to sixth.

The NagaWorld FC versus Tiffy Army FC match will be played at the Old Army Stadium in Phnom Penh at 6pm.

Three more games will be played the following day with defending champions Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC trying to recover from a recent loss with a result against Phnom Penh Crown FC on Sunday. PKR Svay Rieng FC was holding the top spot for most of the season, before a loss to powerhouse Boeung Ket FC in their last outing in the first round saw the team drop to second.

Phnom Penh Crown FC started the 2020 campaign as the number one team, only to fall to number five at the end of the first round.

The PKR Svay Rieng FC versus Phnom Penh Crown FC game will be played at the Svay Rieng Stadium in Svay Rieng province starting 6pm.

The two other games that day will pit EDC against Soltilo Angkor FC and Visakha FC against Boeung Ket FC.

The EDC versus Soltilo Angkor FC game will be played at the EDC Stadium in Phnom Penh starting 6pm. The Visakha FC versus Boeung Ket FC battle will be played at the Prince Stadium in Phnom Penh starting 6pm.

Strict anti-coronavirus measures will be in place at the venues and participants will be limited to 100 people, based on the recommendation of the Cambodian government.

The second leg of the tournament will conclude on October 24.
