Police in Phnom Penh on Saturday arrested a Chinese woman accused of forcing her countrywoman to be raped by another Chinese man in a bid to clear her debt to him.
Captain Doung Sokhom, deputy chief of Crimes Investigation Office in Prampi Makara district, identified the Chinese woman as He Tian Tian, 26, a karaoke girl living in Boeng Pralit commune.
The victim was identified as a 26-year-old woman, a rice vendor in Boeng Pralit commune, Cap Sokhom said, noting the suspect and the victim were friends.
He said at about 11pm on August 27, the suspect invited the victim to have meal with her at a hotel in Boeng Pralit commune.
While eating and drinking beer, the suspect forced her to drink as much as she could, Cap Sokhom said, adding that the suspect secretly put a sleeping pill into the victim’s glass and then called her countryman named Zhou You, 30, who was staying at the same hotel as her to come and join them.
With the victim becoming dozy, they brought her to Zhou’s room where she was raped multiple times, he said.
After missing his wife for a long time, her Chinese husband was looking for her but could not locate her, Cap Sokhom said.
At about 4am on August 28, the victim returned home and was asked by her husband where she had gone and she told him she was raped, according to Cap Sokhom.
About 11am on Saturday, the victim’s husband saw He Tian having lunch at a restaurant in Prampi Makara district, he said, adding that he approached her, got hold of her and sent her to the district police station.
Zhou remains at large.
“During questioning, Tian confessed she put the sleeping pill in the victim’s glass so that she could be sent to Zhou,” he said. “She confessed she did so because she owed Zhou money. She did so to clear her debt.”
Tian is accused with “accomplice of rape” and faces up to seven years in prison if convicted. She will be sent to the court for questioning today.
Police are seeking to arrest Zhou.
