The Supreme Patriarch of Cambodia has told pagodas nationwide to stop the destruction of metal artifacts, which have been used in the renovation and creation of statues.

“The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts has worked diligently to protect artifacts, temples, historical buildings and ancient sites for future generations in order for them to learn from their Cambodian ancestors,” a letter issued by Supreme Patriarch Non Nget said yesterday.

The letter said the ban was also aimed at preventing the destruction of antiquities and the sale of artifacts.

Items that are prohibited from being made into new statues include pieces of antiques or complete artifacts made of bronze, silver, gold mixed with copper, copper or other metal artifacts.
