Cambodian woman killed in Bangkok shooting

A Cambodian woman was among four people who died in a shooting that took place Monday night in a gambling den in Bangkok, Thailand, officials reported.


Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Koy Kuong yesterday said that according to the Cambodian Embassy in Thailand, the encounter which occurred in Bangkok’s Yannawa district left six casualties, four of whom died.

“Among the dead was a Cambodian woman identified as Mao Sreypov, 29, a native of Banteay Meanchey province’s Poipet commune,” he said.

Kuong added that the embassy is currently working with Thai authorities, with embassy officials already deployed to the morgue for the autopsy. An investigation to determine the cause of the shooting is underway.

The embassy, said Kuong, has already made contact with the victim’s relatives in Cambodia. Her relatives have asked the embassy to facilitate and issue documents to bring the body back to the Kingdom for the holding of last rites.
