The government-funded cash scheme launched to assist IDPoor households will be extended to two more months to ease difficulties faced amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“[The government] will continue the aid scheme to poor and vulnerable families during COVID-19 for the months of August and September,” a government guideline released today said.

The extension comes after a careful review of the global impacts of the pandemic and the acknowledgement of the economic distress that Cambodians, especially impoverished families, currently face with the onslaught of the virus.

The statement also identified workers from the garment, tourism and aviation sectors as being the hardest hit during the crisis.

As such, it said $40 will be given monthly to each of the workers from the said formal sectors until the end of September.
