The government has allocated $28 million to Wing agents nationwide to provide for the second round of payments for the equity card scheme, set to benefit some 610,000 poor and vulnerable families.
Secretary-general of the National Social Protection Council Chan Narith said the total payout for families for July has increased from $23 million to $28 million due to around 50,000 more families receiving equity cards.
“The first subsidy for June was open from June 25 to July 24, 2020. The second round of payments has been from July 25 onwards. The people with verified equity cards can now receive cash because we have already sent the money to Wing agents across Cambodia,” he said.
Director of the social welfare department at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation Chhour Sopannha said that as of yesterday, the ministry has disbursed $12.5 million to around 300,000 families.
“I call on the 30,000 families who did not come to the commune hall for their first round of aid and the newly registered people to come to verify their cards with the local authorities to receive social assistance in the second round,” he said.
“If the public does not understand the payment scheme, they can contact the Ministry of Social Affairs or its provincial departments. If a card is torn or missing, please contact the Ministry of Planning and its provincial departments,” he said.
The government has so far set out two phases for the COVID-19 relief programme, with the first phase covering June and July and the second phase covering August and September.
