The Burn Gaming team overcome tough opposition to win the championship in the Metfone All Star Arena Tournament.
Burn Gaming took the crown after beating Impunity KH in a scintillating final on July 26.
Impunity KH, which never lost a game before that, met their match in Burn Gaming. In a brilliant display of talent and confidence, Burn Gaming beat Impunity KH, 3-0, to bring home the $3,000 first prize.
The third place went to Aquatix, while Immortal Zodiac bagged the fourth spot.
Gamer Leexin, the team captain of Burn Gaming, said they were happy and excited to win the competition.
“We are so happy to win the tournament. Metfone All Star Arena Tournament is the most professional event that my team has ever joined. I want to say thanks to our beloved fans, family and friends, especially Metfone who always supported us since the beginning. Burn Gaming wishes and commits to bringing e-sport to the international stage in the future,” he said.
The finals were played under the Bo5 format, where the winner is the team that gets to three wins first.
During the awarding ceremony for the winners and other participating teams, Phung Van Cuong, Metfone CEO, said the event created another milestone for Metfone.
“This sets another milestone for Metfone in terms of providing our valued customers not only with highly engaging contents and top quality entertainments, but also contributing towards building a healthy, strong and fair e-sports environment in Cambodia,” he stressed.
“Also, most importantly, this event marks the beginning of Metfone’s long-term commitment to develop and launch more and exciting e-sports and mobile gaming initiatives in the very near future,” he added.
The e-sports competition, which was dubbed as Cambodia’s largest Mobile Legends tournament, was held from July 18 to 26.
The tournament involved the best eight professional teams in Cambodia with $10,000 in prizes at stake.
All semi-final and final rounds of the matches were broadcast live on the Metfone fan page. The event created a record of 35,000 online viewers at its peak and more than 200,000 comments were recorded during the tournament.
According to Metfone, the event is one way of fulfilling their mission of “creating a connected digital society”, in which they will not only provide mobile and internet service, but will also expand into providing other digital services such as fintech, e-sports, e-education, e-health, smart home, smart city and so on.
An affiliate of the Vietnam’s telecom group Viettel, Metfone has grown to be the largest telecom provider in Cambodia. Currently, its mobile market share is pegged at 42 percent with 97 percent coverage nationwide. Metfone was established in 2009.
