Police in Ho Chi Minh City have arrested 12 members of a drug ring and confiscated approximately 86 kilograms of synthetic drugs and several types of weapons.

The anti-drug unit under the municipal Department of Police confirmed on Thursday it had broken up the large-scale ring that smuggled narcotics from Cambodia into provinces in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam before transporting them to Ho Chi Minh City.

The criminals were armed and would use their weapons to fight back when pursued by police officers.

Their illegal operations were first discovered in mid-April.

From late April to mid-May, officers under the city’s anti-drug police unit and police divisions in Tan Binh, Binh Tan, and Binh Chanh Districts raided two operations headquarters of the ring.

Seven suspects were apprehended, while 26 kilograms of multiple types of synthetic drugs, a K54 pistol, 20 bullets, and two automobiles were confiscated.

Officers expanded their investigation and captured five more suspects, including the kingpin, on June 21.

An extra 60 kilograms of synthetic drugs were confiscated, along with a CZ 75 pistol, five bullets, and three cars.

Police are wrapping up their probe to press suitable charges against the ring members. Tuoitrenews, Vietnam
