Lieutenant General Hun Manet, Cambodia Royal Army commander was promoted to head the youth wing of the Cambodian People’s Party.
CPP president Prime Minister Hun Sen had decided to appoint Lt Gen Manet as the chief of youth in the party’s Permanent Central Committee, a CPP statement said.
CPP spokesman Chhim Phal Virun said today that he supported the appointment, noting that the Permanent Central CPP’s youth has played a significant role in carrying out policies for the party’s youth members.
“It is time to transfer responsibility to the next generation to lead the youth in the party in order to reflect the current situation,” he said. “It is a correct decision to promote Lt Gen Manet because he is highly qualified, has enough experience and is also a member of CPP’s Permanent Central Committee.”
Mr Phal Virun said that previous youth chief Ke Bun Keang will be given another position in the party.
In December 2018, the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) revamped its organisational structure and elected a further seven people to the Permanent Committee of its Central Committee to add to the existing 30 members during its congress held at the capital’s Diamond Island Exhibition Centre.
