About 1,500 Cambodian traders framed with “The Cambodian Association for Economy Development” planned to conduct a “peaceful” rally towards Thailand from June 1-7 to try persuade the authorities to open the border of Aranyaprathet district, Sa Kaeo to facilitate normal market trading at Talat Rong Klua.
The traders group sent a letter to the governor of Banteay Meanchey Province asking for an approval to carry out the said rally.
Sa Kaeo Immigration Bureau superintendent Pol Col Artit Yakaew, said yesterday that he had received a notice from Poi Pet Immigration Bureau on the planned rally to be held at the Poipet border entry point of the Thai-Cambodia Friendship Bridge.
However, Banteay Meanchey Governor had not yet given his response regarding the request of the traders and will still be conducting a discussion between the Sa Kaeo immigration authorities.
Thanakrit Saisin, chief of the international disease control unit at the Aranyaprathet border checkpoint told that the governor will include some agencies during the discussion to further secure the protection of the people against COVID- 19 when borders are open and trading goes back to normal again.
