The capital’s Prampi Makara district police arrested two soldiers suspected of drug use and trafficking.
Captain Nuon Sothea, a penal police officer working with the district police, identified the suspects as Sok Pov, 22 and Pho Ponleu, 31. Both are soldiers working under Brigade 70 and living in a rental house in Prampi Makara district’s Veal Vong commune.
The suspects, said Cap Sothea, allegedly used and sold drugs in internet shops and entertainment bars in the capital.
He said the police knew of the suspects’ identities and whereabouts after a resident, who allegedly saw the suspects smoking drugs inside their rental house, tipped them off on Monday.
“They were arrested on Monday afternoon after police raided their rental house,” said Cap Sothea. “They were caught smoking drugs.”
Police also seized three small packets of crystal methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia during the arrest. The suspects also underwent drug test, with their results coming back as positive.
The suspects are temporarily detained at the district police station and will be sent to Phnom Penh Municipal Court for further questioning on Wednesday, Cap Sothea revealed.
