Phnom Penh Municipal Court today convicted and sentenced a jobless man to 15 years in prison for transporting more than 150 grammes of methamphetamine in the capital last year.
Presideng Judge Ky Rithy identified him as Bou Ngoun, 32, from Kandal province’s Kean Svay district.
He said Nguon was charged with “drug transporting” under Article 40 of the Law on Drugs Control. He was arrested on September 2 last year.
“The court has decided to sentence the accused Bou Nguon to 15 years in prison,” Judge Rithy said. “The court also orders him to pay 20 million riels [about $ 5,000] as a fine.”
He said at about 10.30 pm on September 2, Nguon travelled in his motorbike and was flagged down at a commune police checkpoint in Meanchey district’s Chak Angre Leu commune.
“When he saw the police officers, he sped off,” Judge Rithy said.
“Police officers gave chase and caught him.”
Police seized three packages of crystal methamphetamine weighing 155 grammes.
