In an Australian Stock Exchange filing on Wednesday, Donaco noted the coronavirus impact on business operations in Vietnam and further outlined the specific impact on its operation at the Star Vegas Hotel, situated on the border of Cambodia and Thailand, following an announcement by the government of Thailand this week that the border crossing between the two countries would be closed for two weeks.

The company said that it has arranged unpaid leave for multiple staff members in March and April as well as reducing its headcount and deferring capital expenditure.

“For the first 22 days of March, total casino visitors numbered 53,463 players per day. This is a decline of 15 percent from 63,039 players for the first 22 days of February when the impact of coronavirus was fully known and Chinese New Year was in full swing,” the company said.

Rolling chip turnover in the first 22 days of March increased by 9 percent, compared with the first 22 days of February 2020. The increase was from 1,418 million baht  (about $43) to  1,552 million baht (about $47).

Donaco’s Aristo Hotel in Vietnam remains open but with reduced staffing because of lower business volumes. “The board and management is closely monitoring the situation, with the safety of both our visitors and staff foremost in our mind,” said Donaco Chairman Mel Ashton.

“We are taking pro-active measures to ensure a safe operating environment, as well as controlling expenditure.
