Nearly 800 workers of the New Best Global Textile Factory in Kampong Speu province will receive compensation tomorrow following a protest they held last week over unpaid wages and bonuses.
On March 11, the textile factory workers held a protest in front of the factory and sent a petition to the Labour Ministry after their employer allegedly fled for failing to pay their salaries and severance payments. The company suspended production on February 11 due to setbacks spurred by the coronavirus pandemic.
The workers’ representative Prum Tola said after two rounds of negotiation, the provincial labour department called on the workers to collect their last wages from the department.
The building owners, said Ms Tola, have acceded to pay the workers’ eight days’ worth of wages, severance pay, as well as 10 percent of their wages following the temporary cessation of operations.
“After demanding for compensation, the workers have finally received a solution that meets their demands,” she said.
