More than 10 people were injured on Friday when the truck they were travelling in flipped over in Koh Kong province’s Botum Sakor district.

Major Chea Bunthen, Botum Sakor district deputy police chief, said yesterday the accident occurred on Friday when the truck on its way from Sre Ambel to Kiri Sakor district flipped over, leaving 14 people injured in Andoung Toek commune’s Chi Tres village.

“According to the report, the truck was speeding up on the curved road while carrying overloaded wedding equipment and people,” Maj Bunthen said.

He said the injured included cooks.

Maj Bunthen said the injured are recovering at the provincial hospital while the truck was impounded at the police station.

According to the National Police’s Traffic Police and Public Order Department report, for the first two months of this year, 636 traffic accidents occurred nationwide, killing 345 people and injuring 942.

It said the main causes of the accidents were due to failing to adhere to traffic rules, speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, sleepiness and a lack of vehicle maintenance.
