No passengers of Westerdam allowed to leave the ship until test of specimens is released

Cambodian authorities said that none of more than 2,200 passengers and crew aboard Holland MS Westerdam cruise ship docking at Sihanoukville will be allowed to disembark until test result of the 20 passengers specimens is released.

The MS Westerdam owned by the Holland America Line and turned away from Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, Guam and the Philippines due to fears over the spread of COVID-19 docked at Sihanoukviile this morning.

20, who have been ill and suspected of being infected with coronavirus, had their specimens tested at the Pasteur Institute in Phnom Penh for possible Novel Coronavirus infection, according to provincial police Chief Major General Chuon Narin.

Health Ministry spokesman Or Vandine said the specimens are being tested.

Provincial Hall spokesman Kheang Phearom said today that all passengers are prohibited from leaving the ship after specimens of the passengers being tested.

Mr Phearom said that passengers are expected to be allowed to disembark tomorrow.

He said about 500 or 600 passengers have already bought air tickets.

He said that 36 buses are ready to ferry the passengers to Sihanoukville International Airport.

“If the plan is not changed, tomorrow we will bring those who have air tickets to Sihanoukville International Airport,” he added, adding that they will come to Phnom Penh International Airport to fly home.
