CYBERJAYA, Malaysia (Malay Mail) – Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday defended his remark asking US President Donald Trump to resign, saying that it is needed action to save America.
During a press conference here, Mahathir said that his remark was not directed at “all Americans”, whom he felt are “very nice people”.
“I didn’t refer to all Americans. I just said with regards to President Trump only.
“I find that Americans are very nice people, but not President Trump. I asked him to resign to save America,” he said.
The prime minister’s remarks were made last Saturday at the Third Conference of the League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds, in response to the US Senate acquitting Trump of impeachment. The US embassy in Kuala Lumpur later replied to Mahathir’s comments on Twitter, saying it was disappointed that the prime minister had not taken into account the “spirit of constructive dialogue” between the two countries.
