Worry over coronavirus travel restrictions keeps Man Utd signing Ighalo in UK

LONDON (Xinhua) – Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explained on Saturday that the club’s recent signing Odion Ighalo will not accompany the rest of the squad to their warm weather training camp in the south of Spain in case travel restrictions prevent him from returning to the UK.

Ighalo joined United a week ago from Shanghai Shenhua and the club is worried that the fact he travelled from China could mean him not being allowed to re-enter the UK because of fears of the coronavirus, which has claimed over 700 lives in recent weeks.

“Odion will stay in Manchester, because he arrived from China in the last 14 days,” Solskjaer told Manchester United TV, adding the decision was a precautionary measure.

“Because of the situation in China, we’re not sure if he’d be allowed back into England if he leaves the country again.”

The coach said Ighalo would stay in Manchester to “work with a personal coach” and allow his “family to settle in England as well.”

“Of course he might have liked to have come with the players and get to know them, but with the risk, we don’t want to take that,” continued Solskjaer, who added that the injured duo of Paul Pogba and Marcos Rashford will also stay in the UK, while their companions travel to Marbella.
