Stung Treng provincial police arrested a couple who allegedly transported nearly half a kilogramme of crystal methamphetamine from the Cambodian-Lao border in Chaeb district to sell to users in the province.
District police chief Colonel Bai Thangsamai identified them as Bai Sengchan, 40, and his wife Fay Lai, 42, both farmers living in the district’s Sralao commune.
Colonel Thangsamai said both were drug distributors who frequently transported drugs from the border to sell in Stung Treng city.
He said at about 11 am on Monday, the couple were travelling on a motorbike and were carrying drugs from the border to sell to users. While passing through Preah Rumkel commune’s Anlong Svay village, they came across a police checkpoint and tried to avoid it.
He said when the motorbike veered away from the checkpoint, police officers became suspicious, gave chase on motorbikes and apprehended them.
“They were arrested while they were transporting drugs using a motorbike from the Cambodian-Lao –border to sell to users in the province,” Colonel Thangsamai said. “They were caught red-handed with the drugs.”
He noted that after the detention, police seized 596 meth pills weighing nearly half a kilogramme, two phones and took possession of the motorbike.
