Commune police officer shot dead, another injured

A deputy commune police chief was shot dead while his chief sustained injuries when they were shot at by an offender in Kampong Speu province’s Phnom Sruoch district on Saturday.

Provincial police chief Major General Sam Samuon today said that fatal shooting occurred at about 7 pm on Saturday in Chambak commune’s Kraing Chek village.

“A deputy commune police chief was dead and commune police chief was injured when they were trying to stop a violence,” Maj Gen Samuon said.

Police identified the dead as Tuy Pov and the injured as Ros Sarin.

“When our commune police officers went to intervene and stop the violence, the offender did not listen to them and then shooting ensued,” he said.

Police identified the suspect as Touch Heng, 28. He was arrested on the same evening, police said.

According to a district police report, when Mr Pov and Mr Sarin approached the victim, Chan Sokvy in Kraing Chek village, the suspect managed to grab a K59 pistol from Mr Pov’s waist and shot him in the head and then shot at Mr Sarin.

Maj Gen Samuon said that Mr Pov died en route to hospital.
