50 garment workers died and 2,000 sustained injuries from traffic accidents last year, according to a report.
The National Social Security Fund report released today said: “1,554 traffic accidents occurred last year, a decrease of 9 percent compared with 1,710 cases in 2018.”
It said that number of accidents decreased last year but the number of dead and injured workers increased.
It said that 2,006 workers were injured, 341 of whom sustained critical injuries last year. The report said the number of injured workers increased by 8 percent compared with 1,863 injured workers in 2018.
It said that 42 workers died in traffic accidents in 2018.
“The NSSF officials have disseminated traffic law to workers and drivers of trucks carrying workers at 665 factories last year. 30,747 workers and 23,873 truck drivers participated in the sessions,” the report said.
