New air routes are expected next year connecting Cambodia to Turkey and Nepal, after the civil aviation valued the aviation sector growth and good performance in 2019.
Sin Chansereyvutha, spokesman at the State of Secretariat of Civil Aviation, said the connection of air routes from Turkey to Cambodia and Nepal to Cambodia are very likely to happen next year.
“We have encouraged new air routes to Cambodia. In 2020, we expect new air routes from Turkey and Nepal to Cambodia because talks over the air connections have been promising,” Chansereyvutha said.
He urged the tourism industry to develop promotions to contribute to the market for aviation.
Tourism spokesman Top Sopheak said that the ministry and tour agencies have conducted roadshows at the two destinations to attract tourists to Cambodia. Tourism potential showcases of those destinations have also been made in Cambodia to attract Cambodian tourists.
“For direct flights, it is good for the tourism sector. Once there are connecting flight, it will bring both investors and tourists,” Sopheak said. “So far, we have made tourism promotions to Turkey and Nepal. We have conducted meetings.” Sopheak said Cambodia marks Turkey and Nepal as its main destinations although the number of tourists are not in the country’s top 10 tourism market list.
