Dear Members of ASEAN Bankers Association, Members of the Association of Banks in Cambodia, and Distinguished guests!
I would like to extend my warm welcome to all delegates to the Kingdom of Cambodia on the occasion of the 22nd ASEAN Banking Conference and the 49th ASEAN Banking Council Meeting, held in Phnom Penh. It is an honor for Cambodia to host this important conference, which gathers key leaders of banking sector in ASEAN and delegations from embassies in the region.
I am proud of an immense progress of the banking sector in Cambodia as well as in ASEAN, especially during the last several years after the global financial crisis. Modernizing financial infrastructures and innovating financial technologies have helped enhance efficiency in financial services delivery to over 600 million ASEAN population, particularly with security and inclusion.
During this three-day conference, I believe that all delegates from ASEAN member states would be able to learn and share experiences with one another in pursuit of enhancing the use of technology in banking operations; whereby it will benefit the ever increasing demand of the customers and strengthen the efficiency and transparency of the banking business. Similarly, it is critical that we learn from each other given the fact that we are working together and collaborate in order to strengthen financial sector in the region, particularly through knowledge sharing, best practices, and business opportunities.
In that context, I hope the topics selected and discussed during this conference would provide new ideas, lessons, and experiences for the benefit of all participants. Taking this opportunity, I would like to invite all delegates to spend some time to explore our capital city, Phnom Penh, which is the heart of Social and Economic development of Cambodia. Also, you may wish to visit other tourist destinations in order to explore and study potential business opportunity for you in the Kingdom.
Welcome to the 22nd ASEAN Banking Conference & 49th ASEAN Banking Council Meeting in Phnom Penh – which the Association of Banks in Cambodia is honored to be hosting along with the ASEAN Bankers Association from 25th – 27th November, 2019. We are really looking forward to welcoming you to Phnom Penh – the ‘pearl of the orient’ and one of the most dynamic and fastest growing cities in ASEAN. Across ASEAN the banking sector is evolving at breathtaking speed and nowhere is that more true than in Cambodia. Cambodian society and business – including the banking sector – are embracing and deploying technology that is revolutionizing the way people live and interact.
In the banking sector, we are especially proud of our members creative and thoughtful use of technology to improve their operations, their customers’ experiences and their profitability. Cambodia is also a hotbed of fintech innovation and we take great satisfaction in seeing homegrown technologies – in blockchain, e-commerce, cashless payments and so much more – taking root and changing the mindset of a young generation who are growing up as digital natives.
We also see technology as a valuable tool in helping us operate in a more financially inclusive environment where people have access to a broad range of formal financial services anywhere, anytime. The 22nd ASEAN Banking Conference this year is focused on innovation and technology and we are extremely excited by the opportunities to learn and share that our delegates and speakers have brought to Phnom Penh.
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
On behalf of the ASEAN Bankers Association (ABA), I extend an earnest welcome to all our friends and colleagues to the coming 22nd ASEAN Banking Conference and the 49th ASEAN Banking Council Meeting. This capstone event in our ASEAN Banking calendar will be hosted by The Association of Banks in Cambodia (ABC) from the 25th to 27th November 2019, at the Sokha Hotel, Phnom Penh, Kingdom of Cambodia. The Organising Committee at ABC has been working tirelessly to assemble subject matter experts to deliberate, provide insights and thought leadership on the highly relevant topics in the new normal economic situation, banking industry and regulatory environment and particularly in the ASEAN region. I congratulate The Association of Banks in Cambodia (ABC) on selecting this year’s theme “ASEAN Connectivity 2025 – A brave New World of Digital Innovation for ONE ASEAN Banking Sector”. This is timely in the line of the rapid adoption and embedding of digital lifestyle in all of our daily lives. Studies have also shown that ASEAN has the fastest penetration and adoption of mobile/smart phones in this community. I would like to urge all members of ABA to participate in this prestigious event and to use the conference as an avenue to share your views and comments during the scheduled Conference and Council meetings. This will strengthen and help to shape our own strategic pathways for the banking and finance industry and complement the economic developments in this region. This event will also present great opportunities for you to network with your regional peers and business leaders as well as others thought leaders outside the region.
I would like to thank ABC for hosting and arranging a list of interesting programmes and exciting social activities for all participants to have memorable time in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. I am also grateful to His Excellency Chea Chanto, Governor, National Bank of Cambodia, and also His Excellency Dato Lim Jock Hoi, Secretary General of ASEAN, who have very kindly agreed to deliver their keynote speech and address, respectively for this Conference.
I look forward to meeting you all at the event and wish you a rewarding and memorable time in Phnom Penh, Kingdom of Cambodia.
