Alliance Francais Siem Reap (AFSM) has announced the results of the first edition of the Alliance Francais Golf Tournament.

The tournament, which the AFSM organized together with Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort, was held on October 20 at Phokeethra Country Club in Siem Reap province.

The Phokeethra Country Club is among the best golf courses in the country. Last week, it was recognized by the International Association of Golf Operators (IAGTO) as Golf Resort of the Year-Asia Pacific during  the 20th IAGTO Awards held in Marrakech, Morocco.

The event gathered together amateurs for a friendly tournament and beginners for golf initiation. According to the organizers the participants

The results of tournament are the following: 1st Brut- Lay Samban; 1st Net- Lay Jian Zhe; 2nd Net- Ghek Keo; and 3rd Net- Christophe Martin.

Brut or gross score refers to the number of strokes actually taken, while Net or net score is the score registered by a competitor after taking handicap into account. In golf, handicap is defined as the numerical measure of a golfer’s ability.

The event was more of a putting competition, a gentleman’s game where players try to outplay each other towards being the first to putt a pre-determined hole.

According to the event organizers, it was a fantastic tournament played over the 18-hole golf course. They noted that the players were up and ready just after the sunrise and played well in more than four hours.

The tournament winners later received their prizes from the organizers.

Serge Bellini, Director of Alliance Française, said more activities of such kind should be held.

“It was a great edition, which will certainly call more in the future. I would like to sincerely thank all participants and Phokeethra Country Club and the sponsors for supporting the tournament,” he said.

Among the event sponsors are Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort, Ibis Styles Siem Reap, Stocker Studio, Srixon, PSD Travel, Heineken, Les Celliers d’Asie & Mouton Cadet, Les Vergers du Mékong, Artisans d’Angkor, Hotel Aigle Noir Fontainebleau, Golf de Fontainebleau, Agrisud International, Alliance Française Siem Reap, and Phokeethra Country Club.

“This event was also important for us as we celebrate Siem Reap’s jumelage with Fontainebleau, since 2000, which reinforced the ties between Cambodia and France,” he added.

Fabrice Ho, golf manager of Phokeethra Country Club, added that they were delighted to host Alliance Francais at their golf course. “The tournament was fantastic,” he said.
