Kampot provincial police have arrested three men who allegedly raped a 43-year-old Frenchwoman after offering her lift home in Kampot city on Friday.
Major General Mao Chanmathurith, provincial police chief, yesterday identified them as Seng Srun, 37, a taxi driver, Pum Livy, 19, and Nget Nophea, 23.
He said the three were arrested on Tuesday and Wednesday at different locations.
“Mr Srun was arrested in Veal Rinh commune in Preah Sihanouk province’s Prey Nop district on Tuesday and the other two were arrested on Bokor mountain in Kampot province’s Chhuk district on Wednesday,” Maj Gen Chanmathurith noted.
He said all three suspects were arrested following an investigation which took several days.
“They confessed to committing the crime,” Maj Gen Chanmathurith said, adding that the three will be sent to the provincial court today.
Brigadier General Sao Sam Oeun, provincial deputy police chief, on Sunday said the French woman had filed a complaint with provincial police claiming that she was raped by three men on Friday.
He said she was walking out alone from Golden Time restaurant in Kampot city early on Friday morning when the three men drove by in a car and offered to give her a lift back to her rental home.
Brig Gen Sam Oeun said the men took her to a quiet spot where all three raped her before they dropped her off at about 5.40am at a roundabout in the city.
