Prey Nop district police in Preah Sihanouk province on Sunday arrested a man suspected of trafficking 400 grams of crystal meth.
Captain Veng Sothy, a penal police officer working with Prey Nop district police, identified the suspect as Chov Khuon, 30, a blacksmith from Kampot province’s Kampong Trach district who lived in Prey Nop district.
Cap Sothy noted that at about 11.30pm on Sunday, district police raided the suspect’s rental house in Tuol Tortoeng commune.
Cap Sothy said that police knew the suspect’s identity and whereabouts after an undercover police officer contacted him to purchase drugs.
“He was a drug distributor who always brought drugs to sell to construction workers or fishermen who were drug users in the district,” he said. “He was arrested on Sunday after he sold drugs to our undercover police official inside his shop.”
Cap Sothy said that after the arrest, police seized a total of nine packages of crystal meth weighing 400 grams, as well as two phones and other drug paraphernalia.
Lieutenant Colonel Suos Seila, chief of the provincial anti-drug department, yesterday said the suspect is accused of drug trafficking.
He noted that the suspect is being detained at the provincial police headquarters and will be sent to the provincial court for questioning today.
