A tour group rescued two fishermen as their boat began sinking yesterday in Preah Sihanouk province.

Strong winds capsized the boat while the two fishermen were pulling in their nets near Dek Kol island, leaving them hanging on to plastic containers to stay afloat.

A nearby boat being operated by the Koh Rong Dive Centre came to their rescue, said Preah Sihanouk town police chief Pol Phosda.

“There were two fishermen on the sinking boat and after it capsized, they were not injured but were stranded,” he said.

“The boat from Koh Rong Dive Centre spotted them and promptly rescued them.”

Mr Phosda said the incident occurred at about 9am and that the boat sank.

He identified the survivors as Chey Sam Ol, 38, and Sang Moeun, 47.
