Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday charged four foreign nationals who allegedly transported nearly 40 kilograms of drugs from Laos into Stung Treng province for distribution across the Kingdom.
Sok Chea, a court clerk, identified the four as 51-year-old Yun Lianfu, 43-year-old Choi Kalin, 40-year-old Lau Chunkin and 48-year-old Feng Yong Chao.
Mr Chea noted Mr Yun, Choi and Lau hailed from China, while Mr Feng hailed from Taiwan.
He said all four were charged with drug possession and trafficking, which carries a life sentence. They were all sent to pre-trial detention after appearing before an investigating judge.
Lieutenant General Loeuk Vannak, chief of the Interior Ministry’s anti-drug trafficking department, yesterday said the drugs were meant to be distributed in Phnom Penh.
Lt Gen Vannak said Mr Yun was arrested on Wednesday night at his rented home in Chamkar Mon district.
He said police found out about Mr Yun after he sold drugs to an undercover police officer.
“He was the ringleader. He was arrested after police raided his condo in Tonle Bassac commune,” Lt Gen Vannak said.
