Phnom Penh Municipal Court will deliver its verdict in the espionage case against two former Radio Free Asia journalists early next month.
Y Rin, court spokesman, yesterday said the court on October 3 will deliver its judgement in the case involving Oun Chhin and Yeang Sothearin.
Mr Chhin and Mr Sothearin were arrested in November 2017 and charged with “illegally providing information to a foreign state” under Article 445 of the Criminal Code.
After hearings in July and August, Presiding Judge Im Vannak had announced that the verdict would be given on August 30, but it was delayed when he had to attend a Justice Ministry meeting that day.
Mr Sothearin yesterday said that that had not been officially informed and only heard from journalists that Mr Rin had announced the date.
“I think that this delay is taking a little too long but even if it is late, we hope that the verdict on October 3 will be just,” he said. “I hope the court will not delay it again.”
