Prime Minister Hun Sen yesterday said the government will provide 1,000 tonnes of rice and cash aid of about $488,000 to the National Committee for Disaster Management to distribute to people who may be affected by upcoming floods.
During a Council of Ministers meeting, he said that NCDM will cooperate with the Cambodian Red Cross to distribute the aid.
“Relevant ministries, institutions and all local authorities in flood-prone provinces, especially Stung Treng, Kratie and Kampong Cham where the water level has reached danger levels, should be prepared to intervene when the floods hit,” Mr Hun Sen said. “Authorities in Preah Vihear and Kampong Thom provinces should also be on alert for riverbank collapses and other risks, during heavy rains which cause flooding.”
The premier said the authorities have to evacuate affected people to safe places on time and educate communities on the need to practice good hygiene, drink clean water and avoid venomous animals during floods.
