Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith will pay an official visit to Cambodia from September 12-13 to resolve the ongoing border issue and strengthen relations.

Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Ket Sophann told Khmer Times today that Mr Sisoulith will visit Phnom Penh next week at the request of Prime Minister Hun Sen.

Mr Sophann said the visit aims to discuss further bilateral cooperation between the two countries, particularly, the border issue.

Mr Sophann noted that Foreign Affairs Minister Prak Sokhonn and his delegation on Thursday met Lao Foreign Affairs Minister Saleumxay Kommasith in Vientiane.

Mr Sokhonn’s visit aimed to strengthen and expand the scope and depth of bilateral cooperation, including the border issue and shared interest in international cooperation.

The tension between both armies happened after Cambodian authorities accused the Lao army of encroaching onto Cambodian territory in Preah Vihear province’s Chhep district since the August 14.
