Ministry of Justice undersecretary of state, Seng Sovannara was sacked today after he was investigated by the Ministries of Interior and Environment over alleged land grabbing in protected areas in Mondolkiri province.
In July, Mondulkiri provincial governor Svay Sam Eang issued a letter to annul the ownership of Mr Sovannara, saying he has illegally occupied 990 hectares of land in Phnom Prich Wildlife Sanctuary under the provincial environment department’s jurisdiction.
According to a Royal Decree signed by King Norodom Sihamoni today, Mr Sovannara is no longer part of the Ministry of Justice. “[I] wish to end the position of HE Seng Sovannara as undersecretary of state at the Ministry of Justice,” the King said.
The King noted in the Royal Decree that the sacking of Mr Sovannara was made based on the request from Prime Minister Hun Sen.
Minister of Interior Sar Kheng on August 13 also announced the removal of Mr Sovannara from his membership at the CPP national-level working group for Mondulkiri province.
