Cambodia’s campaign at the 18th edition of the 2019 World Police and Fire Games in Chengud got off to the perfect start on Friday after securing two gold medals and a bronze on the opening day of competition.
The Ministry of Interior rowing team received gold medals in their category, while swimmer Sok Vannak took a gold medal and Cheng Sopha settling for a bronze.
The athletes are representing the National Police Sport Union of Cambodia with Lieutenant General Chea Bunheng leading 96 Cambodian delegates, athletes and coaches to join the tournament. The games are considered as a good opportunity for the kingdom’s police force to garner valuable experience and sharpen their skills.
The tournament will run until August 18 in Cheng Du province of the People’s Republic of China. The 96 athletes will appear in 12 different sports including taekwondo, karate, judo, wrestling, badminton, table tennis, swimming, triathlon, athletics, rugby and rowing.
The World Police and Fire Games has its origins in San Jose, California in 1985. Since that time the Games have been held every 2 years in a different city and country around the world.
