French trainer to aid Cambodian Fencers

French fencing coach Bruno Gaby has arrived in Cambodia to aid fencers in their preparation for the 2019 Manila SEA Games and the 2023 Phnom Penh SEA Games.

Sok Ang, secretary-general of the Cambodian Federation of Fencing (FFC), speaking yesterday, said that on behalf of the federation, thanked the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports for providing the French coach Bruno Gaby.”

Secretary-General Ang said that in order for the kingdom to successfully compete in the international arena, such expert training was essential.

According to the SEA Games Master Plan 2017-2021, the coach has a number of important missions, including the leadership and reform of the Technical Commission, the training of coaches and arbitration.

The FFC was affiliated with the International Fencing Federation (FIE) and National Olympic Committee of Cambodia in 2006 and has been steadily increasing its participation on the international stage.

Cambodian fencing’s heyday came in the 1960s before the scourge of the Khmer Rouge.

As an Olympic sport fencing receives recognition and funding from the MoEYS and NOCC.
