Oaths taken at the Royal Palace

PHNOM PENH, August 5, (Khmer Times) – Heng Samrin, president of the National Assembly and honorary president of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) met with the other lawmakers to be sworn in at the Royal Palace.
 
The 55 Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) members took their oaths today under the patronage of the King.
 
Son Chhay, CNRP lawmaker stated that he will meet with members of the CPP Wednesday to negotiate the agenda for the eighth session if the National Assembly (NA). The CNRP will take its seats in the NA on August 8.
 
Sam Rainsy, president of the CNRP, said: we held our side of the agreement, now the CPP must hold theirs.
 
Kem Sokha, vice-president of the CNRP, responded: we have parliamentary immunity and can now demonstrate without fear of the judicial system – without fearing the courts..  And the judicial system must not fear us, for we will demonstrate peacefully. 
 
Sam Rainsy is hopeful that the activists who are still incarcerated will be released soon.
